Delivery API Tracking: In-House vs Third-Party Delivery
What's changing?
Beginning March 31, 2026, delivery tracking will be considered standard for all ezCater orders. If you are passing delivery tracking on self-delivered orders via the Shipday or Cartwheel Delivery API integration, that tracking does and will continue to meet ezCater’s tracking standard.
What does this mean for partners using the Delivery API?
The Delivery API was designed to support integrated self-delivery. In the near future, tracking passed from third-party delivery providers beyond ezDispatch will no longer be eligible for the tracking standard.
-
In-house delivery:
- If your restaurant delivers orders using your own drivers (including drivers managed through an in-house delivery platform), and passes that tracking via a Delivery API integration, it will continue to work as expected.
- Third-party delivery services:
- Orders can still be fulfilled by third-party delivery providers the Delivery API, but will not count towards ezCater's delivery tracking standards.
What about integration partners like Cartwheel and Shipday?
The change relates to who is completing the delivery, not which integration partner is used. Tracking data associated with in-house delivery continues to be supported, while tracking associated with third-party delivery providers beyond ezCater's delivery network (ezDispatch) will no longer be included in ezCater delivery tracking.
Why did ezCater make this change?
This update helps ensure a consistent, reliable tracking experience for customers and aligns delivery tracking with delivery methods ezCater can fully support end to end. You can read more about delivery tracking options or reach out to partnersuccess@ezcater.com with any questions.
